HOUSE LEAGUE (Age 8-12)
The House League is an opportunity for players of all abilities to get in the water, have fun and compete against their peers. Children will be introduced to the basic skills of water polo in a fun and encouraging environment. Players will be divided evenly onto teams that they will play/train with for the entire season. All players will get equal playing time. Practice will be 1 day during the week and Sunday afternoons will be dedicated to competing against the other in-house league teams. Exact practice schedules will be determined once players have been evaluated. Minimum swimming level needed to participate.
Practices Per Weeks: 2 (1 practice and 1 game day)
Length of Practice: 1 hour
Season Offered: Fall (Sept - Dec), Winter/Spring (Jan - April)
Attendance Requirements: None (50-100% recommended for optimum progress)
FALL 2025 WATER POLO HOUSE LEAGUE (age 8 – 12): September 15 – December 21
The Fall 2025 Greenwich Aquatics Water Polo House league season starts on Monday, September 15 and goes until December21. This is a longer season than in the past. Players will practice one time during the week and then play in-house games every Sunday. We have listed the tentative practice days for all groups. For Sunday game days, kids will be divided onto different teams every week so they get to learn how to play with everyone. Players will play from either 12:30-1:30pm or 1:30-2:30pm. We ask that all players attend one of the evaluation dates.
Cost Per Season: $795 (plus a YMCA member annual membership which is $336 for the year or $29 per month)
New This Season: We will offer an extra practice for our intermediate/advanced players so they can be better prepared to tryout for our travel team. This will be on Fridays from 4-5pm. There will be a supplemental cost for this extra practice and this practice will only be open for players with water polo experience.
Evaluation/Tryout Dates: All players need to be evaluated in order to make practice placement. Evaluations should only take 15 minutes and can be scheduled with Kim Wang (ktierney@gwymca.org).
Prerequisite: In order to play water polo, players need a minimum swimming level. Players need to be able to able to swim a few laps of freestyle without stopping. We do a timed 50 free at the evaluations and are looking for players to do 2 laps under 1 minute. If players are not ready for water polo based on their swimming level, we recommend focusing on swim lessons to start.
